Sheehy Updates Montanans on REAL ID Implementation

U.S. SENATE – U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy (R – Mont.) today provided the following update to Montana constituents regarding the implementation of the REAL ID Act.

“My office has received numerous inquiries from Montanans regarding the implementation of REAL ID. As your senator, I am committed to working every day to positively impact the lives of all Montanans through timely and high-quality constituent services. The Trump Administration provided our office with relevant information regarding REAL ID that we are making available to constituents today,” said Senator Sheehy.

Background on REAL ID provided by the Trump Administration:
As a reminder, beginning May 7, 2025, passengers who present a state-issued identification document (ID) that is not REAL ID-compliant at TSA checkpoints and who do not have another acceptable alternative form of ID, such as a passport, will be notified of their non-compliance, may be directed to a separate area and may receive additional screening. This includes TSA PreCheck® passengers.

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on REAL ID and upcoming enforcement beginning May 7th at this link: REAL ID FAQs.

Additionally, TSA currently accepts expired IDs up to two years after expiration, for the acceptable forms of identification found at this link, including REAL ID-compliant state-issued IDs and passports: Acceptable Identification at the TSA Checkpoint | Transportation Security Administration
