WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced in a post on Truth Social that Montana U.S. Sen. Tim Sheehy will be appointed to the United States Naval Academy board.
NBC Montana spoke exclusively with Sheehy on Tuesday morning, who told us the following:
“As we face a tremendous amount of threats around the world as a senator from Montana, for Montana, but also, as a leader for a nation, it’s incredibly important we make sure that our services academies are laser focused on making sure we’re prepared for our next conflict.”
Sheehy is a class of 2008 U.S. Naval Academy graduate with a B.S. in history.
Sheehy completed several deployments and hundreds of missions as a U.S. Navy SEAL .
He was involved in dozens of engagements with enemy forces, earning him multiple combat decorations, including the Bronze Star with valor for heroism in combat and the Purple Heart medal.
Sheehy met his wife, Carmen, who served as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer, at the Naval Academy.
Sheehy tells NBC Montana that being a senator and a father of four young kids is already two full time jobs, but he could not pass up an opportunity like this.
“This isn’t just an honor for me, this is an honor for all Montana to have one of our elected representatives sitting in on the board of visitors of one of our nation’s most prestigious institutions.”
